Self-confidence, mastery and employer’s right of management
One of our partners, FrontRow Consulting, is currently in the market with the book "Totally Boss - about women and leadership and the way to the top". The book has been awarded a dice roll 5 in Dagbladet's review. The launch party for the book is today. Merete Furesund in Homble Olsby | Littler is one of 13 talented women interviewed in the book about their career path. She is accentuated by the authors as someone who has a conscious relationship with self-confidence:
“Self-confidence is fresh. I therefore challenge myself and constantly ask myself what I should work on more. At the same time, I have always taken the challenges that come, and in that way I may have been fearless. I need to stand in new things to see what I'm mastering. The experiences I have gained in this way help build confidence.”
The authors see Merete as a typical example of someone who builds self-confidence through mastery, and highlights in the book that she has also found her own way to deal with a lack of self-confidence when she encounters new, unknown situations:
"Meeting before the Supreme Court felt like taking a big test. My way of dealing with it was to break the task down into smaller parts. Then it becomes manageable and feels less scary. During my career, I have always been committed to building self-confidence through talking to others, keep myself up to date and taking courses. In addition, I remind myself that it is always about doing the best job possible. Then just jump in it."
Just as important as making leaders feel confident in themselves is making sure that leaders master and develop their jobs. This can be achieved in several ways, but a very central theme is to ensure good competence in the field of employer’s right of management.
The employer’s right of management is the foundation for all management and must be exercised in wise interaction with other management principles. It is important that leaders understand that the employer’s right of management both provides opportunities and has limits, and that the absence of clear leadership also creates legal challenges. All employees of Homble Olsby | Littler can help you build the necessary skills in this area.
