Personnel security: Littler participated in this year's Kongsberg Agenda
The heightened threat situation - both nationally and internationally - makes it necessary for businesses to be vigilant and protect their assets. The war in Ukraine, increased geopolitical tension and a more complex crime picture make this particularly relevant. But what measures should employers take? Littler's Nina Elisabeth Thjømøe participated in a panel discussion on this topic during this year's Kongsberg Agenda, which was held June 18-21.
Kongsberg Agenda is an annual technology festival where technology and people meet. It is an important area for expertise and exchange of views on various topics, including safety in Norwegian workplaces.
In the panel debate, Nina Elisabeth Thjømøe, together with representatives from the ICT and security industry, discussed how the changing threat landscape affects Norwegian businesses. The authorities expect businesses to take security seriously and implement the necessary measures to protect sensitive information such as technology and critical infrastructure.
Companies that process sensitive information must prioritise personnel security both as a key element of national security and as a necessary measure to reduce the risk of financial losses and reputational damage. As an employer, it's important to be proactive and act before threats become real problems.
In the debate, Nina Thjømøe pointed out that managers must take clear responsibility for personnel security in a time of increased geopolitical unrest, and that employers should have good routines that safeguard both discrimination protection and GDPR when security measures are considered. This is relevant, for example, if you are considering hiring an employee from a so-called “high-risk country”. In such situations, the employer must ensure solid risk assessments.
Littler thanks Kongsberg Agenda and Crown Defenze for the opportunity to participate in this debate on a relevant and important topic.
