Norwegian world-famous artists take the lead in the fight against plastic pollution
In 2018 Norwegian artists initiated and gathered around a world-unique movement in the fight against plastic pollution. Performing surprise pop-up concerts for volunteers after cleanups, the artists have been engaging, honoring, and inspiring their fans to act. The movement is called #cleansoundsmovement.
Up until now, over 50 artists have had their own secret pop-up concert somewhere along the Norwegian coastline. The movement keeps getting bigger and bigger, and several hundred Norwegian artists more are joining in the near future.
Now they challenge world famous artists, all around the world, to follow their lead.
Aurora, one of Norway’s biggest international artist, challenged Billie Eillish on one of the biggest TV shows in Norway (NRK). Sigrid, another international superstar from Norway, challenged Maisie Peters from the UK. Sol Heilo challenged the famous American band Pearl Jam.
The initiator of the artist-movement, Morten Sand, found the inspiration after attending a local beach-cleanup. He wanted to make a bigger impact and came up with the idea of cleansoundsmovement. By creating a global artist-movement - where artists walk the talk - one would honor and inspire the true plastic fighters around the world.
The first pop-up concert in the movement was in July 2018 and performed by the band Madcon, famous for the songs “Beggin” and ”Don’t Worry”. Other leading Norwegian artists quickly joined the movement, and the movement kept growing bigger.
Morten Sand, the initiator of the movement, comments;
"All artists, all around the world, can easily engage in this movement. Whether you are an opera singer, jazz-musician, or pop/rock-artist it’s easy to bring your instruments and voice to surprise some everyday heroes. This will not only create magic moments all around the world, but by documenting and sharing this on social media, the artists will inspire their fans to act”.
Aurora – the Norwegian world-famous artists says to NRK, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation:
"Since there are living humans - one by one - we have destroyed the earth, it is only fair that one by one we save it. I believe there is hope. If we act now. And in the years to come".

Initiator Morten Sand dream is to convince Bruce Springsteen to join the movement and do a surprise concert for a park-cleanup in Central Park;
"I am convinced Bruce would love to engage in this cause through the movement. It’s an uncontroversial message, it’s easy to execute and with an honest and clear message we all can relate to. We all need to pick up our trash. For our oceans, planet, and our children’s future.”
