The Government has decided that foreign workers from the EEA area will be compensated for the period they are prevented from working in Norway due to closed borders.
From 29 January 2021, very strict entry restrictions were implemented. This has affected foreign workers who were not in Norway when the entry restrictions were implemented, and workers who have had to leave Norway during this period.
The compensation amounts to 70% of the basis for sickness benefit. The scheme shall be practiced so that the employer advances the amount, and then seeks reimbursement from NAV. The compensation scheme applies to employees who are members of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme and who were employed by an employer in Norway as of 29 January 2021.
The application can be sent to NAV from and including week 16, and one can apply for the period from 29 January 2021.
